So yesterday I finally made a quick stop into Dozen to try a cupcake. And seriously, I don't see what the big deal is. My vanilla/vanilla cupcake was kind of dry and the icing tasted funky. Did I just catch them on an off day or is Dozen WAY over-rated??
lol, I dont need fancy cupcakes right now but thanks! I am sure hers are WAY better than the one I had yesterday. I'm just a little behind on the cupcake fad and was so curious about what is so great about dozen that they get to stop traffic on murray avenue for their "curb service", and why they have won awards.
yes. overrated. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overrated. esp for the price. i had a friend that got cupcakes from them for their wedding and paid a SMALL FUCKING FORTUNE (way more than a wedding cake would have cost) and i watched everyone scrape the icing right off the top and leave most of the cake on their plates. for serious. hell, i did it too.
holy crap, if I ordered a bunch of cupcakes for my wedding and they turned out anything like the one I ate yesterday I would be pissed. I mean, did it LOOK cute? yes, it was adorable! but taste-wise it was very lame.
I've never had their vanilla vanilla- I always go for the funky flavors!- and those have been good every time. as a matter of fact, sometimes the cake is better than the frosting.
however, just judging cake and frosting and not the cute shape? the best i've had is the italian cream cake at at southside crazy mocha. big enough for two people and very yum.
I wasn't blown away by Dozen either. However Coco's Cupcakes on Ellsworth Ave make certain cupcakes-the ones that have Italian meringue icing-that are FAB! Razz had those for his birthday.
